Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

Here are some important reminders for the week of September 22nd:

Picture Day: Don’t forget Thursday, September 24th is picture day. Students should be wearing their uniforms and smiles.

Fall Uniform Sidewalk Sale: This Friday, September 25, the PO will be holding its first Uniform Sidewalk Sale immediately after school. Come visit Mrs. Schollmeyer near the drop-off/pick-up area. This is your opportunity to purchase uniforms at a reduced cost.

Scrip: Now is the time to start planning for the holiday season and we would like to help. The Scrip program is an easy way to purchase gift certificates for all those you would like to remember with the perfect gift. Also, don’t forget you can purchase them for yourself.

Here is an example: I purchase prescriptions in the amount of $100 each month from Walgreen’s. This is an amount that I know each month is put in my budget. I order a gift card in the amount of $100 for Walgreen’s through the GPA PO scrip program and the school receives 6% back – which is $6.00. I simply take the gift card with me when I pick up the medication and use it like cash. So the school made $6.00 on a purchase I was already making. Here is another example, my friend’s birthday is coming up and I usually spend about $25 on a gift. She is an avid reader so I order a gift card from Borders bookstore in the amount of $25.00 – I give the gift card to her and the school receives 9% or $2.25.

These cards can be ordered and received within a couple of weeks or less and there is a complete list of retailers and order form on the website.

PO Meeting: The next PO meeting is next Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Please join us as we continue to plan events and services for the students and faculty. The agenda will be sent in next week’s e-mail blast.

Lunch Order Reminder: If you purchased Hot Lunches in our last round of orders, please note that the Hot Lunch dates are not in consecutive weeks, but rather next week, September 28 – October 2 and then the week after Fall Break, October 12 – 16.

Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

Here are your important reminders for the week of September 15th:

Restaurant Night:  This month we are eating at Babbo Italian Eatery at 67th Avenue & the 101 (North East corner) on Wednesday, September 16 from 11:00am to 9:00pm. A flyer has been attached to this email as well as sent home with your child today.  Flyers are required for the school to receive credit for your purchase so please take one with you.  Come and join other GP families for fun, food and school spirit!  You can order carry out as well.

Half Day: This Friday: The PO will be selling booster items immediately after dismissal (12:30 p.m.) this Friday, September 18.  Look for the pop-up tent in the lawn to purchase your spirit items.  Additional snack tickets will also be available for purchase at that time.

Lunch Orders: The next round of lunch orders for September 28-October 16 are due on Monday, September 21st. Please remember to cut off and keep the top portion of the order form for your records. Lunch orders are for two to three weeks out, so be sure to check the dates.  An order form has also been attached.

Picture Day:  Mark your calendar for picture day on Thursday, September 24th. Students received flyers today with instructions for ordering pictures.  Remember, students are still to wear their uniforms on this day. We are still looking for a couple of parents to help guide students through the picture line. If you can help on this important day, please contact Melissa McGehee at vp@glendalepreppo.org.

Trash to Cash: The PO is collecting Box Tops and Campbell’s soup labels to help raise funds. Simply clip the labels of participating items, collect them in a bag and drop them in the top drawer of the PO Credenza in the RED box in the main office.  See the PO website http://www.gpapo.org for other easy ways to turn your shopping dollars into funds for the school, including an inclusive list of retailers offering gift cards in our scrip program.  Remember to do so using our form available on the website or in the front office.

Come join us as we are still planning events for the year and have saved a space just for you. We look forward to meeting you and getting your input on important PO activities.

Scrip Gift Cards: Don’t forget to check out the GP Scrip Gift Card program before you go shopping! You can participate in this program at no additional cost to you. For example, you can spend what you normally spend on gasoline each week, but by using pre-purchased Scrip cards instead of your credit card, you earn money for the school in the process.

You can order gift cards from the PO for a number of retailers in different denominations. Simply fill out the form and return with payment to the PO Box slot “All Other Forms” and in about a week you will be notified to pick up your gift cards.

If you do not see a retailer on the form, please go to our website and look through the complete listing there – write in the retailer at the bottom of the form and the dollar amount you wish to purchase.

Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

A Great Griffin thank you to all the parents, teachers, faculty and students who made our first month FANTASTIC! A special thank you to all of the new and returning parents who have volunteered in so many areas to make this year another success. I can hardly believe we are fast approaching our October Fall Break and the end of the first quarter.

Here are some important events (in chronological order) to note for the month of September:

Griffin Games meeting: The first meeting for this year’s Griffin Games will take place Wednesday, September 2nd, at 3:30 p.m. on the patio. This will be a relaxed information gathering session to review last year’s event and brainstorm for this year’s Griffin Games. Come share your ideas!

Calendar Reminder: Friday, September 4th, is a half day (8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) and also the start of the students’ first “R & R” weekend (rest & relaxation with no homework). There is no school on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day.

Booster Booth: On Friday, September 4th, Dusty Schollmeyer, Booster Chairperson, will be running the booster booth under the pop up tent on the main courtyard right after dismissal at 12:30 p.m. If you would like to pick up some school spirit items, see her there. The next booster booth is scheduled for Friday, September 18th, our next early dismissal day (12:30 p.m.).

Teacher Appreciation Lunch: The PO will be providing lunch on campus to our wonderful teachers and staff on Friday, September 4th. Please contact Rhonda Lewis, Teacher Appreciation Chair, if you are interested in helping out with this event by donating food items or helping to set up/serve.

Lunch Orders: The next lunch orders are due Monday, September 8th. Order forms can be found on our website, in the front office, and attached to this email. Thank you for your patience as we worked through our first round of lunch orders and service. We are very grateful to the lunch committee members who have taken on this (sometimes) daunting, yet important task for our students.

Remember that Snack Tickets are purchased on this form as well for Donut Fridays and the snack bucket (available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during lunch).

Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

These are the upcoming events for the week of August 25th:

Restaurant Night: Thank you to so many families and teachers who made our first restaurant night at Paradise Bakery night a huge success!   The management told me several times that Glendale Prep has a great group of kids.  It was wonderful to see so many families mingling and supporting the school.  As the time passed, students could even be found grouped together in the back working together to complete their homework assignments.  In the end, the 10th grade tip jar contained the most money by a mere 10 cents!  They celebrated today with a cookie party, courtesy of Paradise Bakery, during their lunch time.

Curriculum Night: This Friday, August 28th is Glendale Preparatory Academy’s Curriculum Night for the 2009-2010 school year.  The event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Narthex, where our lunch vendors will be serving samples of our new yummy food options that are available to our students for Hot Lunch.  After a brief opening presentation of the educational vision and curriculum of the school, the remainder of the evening will be devoted to you following your child’s schedule and meeting all of their teachers. See   you there!

Calendar Reminder: This Friday, August 28th is a full day of school.  Next Friday, September 4, is a half day (8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) and also the start of the students’ first “R & R” weekend (rest & relaxation with no homework).

Directory: If you would like to be included in the school directory or have your business advertised with other Glendale Prep businesses, the deadline for turning in the gold directory permission forms and directory advertising forms is Monday, August 31st. Forms are attached to this email and can be found on the website. Please place completed forms in the blue P.O. Box in the main office in the slot marked “All Other Forms.” Advertising checks can be attached, as well as any artwork.

Traffic: Thank you to our very dedicated traffic volunteers!  They have been working hard every morning and afternoon to enforce the drop off and pick up procedures set forth by Glendale Prep’s administration.  Keep up the great work parents; remember, our kids’ safety is the priority.

Dear Glendale Prep Parents,

These are the upcoming events for the week of August 18th:

Restaurant Night: TONIGHT is our first restaurant night at Paradise Bakery Night from 5-9 p.m. Don’t forget: The grade that raises the most tips will earn a cookie party from Paradise Bakery! Come have dinner and get to know some of the other Glendale Prep families and teachers.

Calendar: It has come to our attention that some of the dates on the PO calendar (on the back of the welcome packet folders) are incorrect. One key discrepancy to note is that Curriculum Night will be held Friday, August 28, not September. 4. We have uploaded a revised version of the calendar onto the PO website. We apologize for any confusion.

Lunch Orders: The next lunch menu and order form is attached. You can also find it on the website. It is due with payment no later than Wednesday, August 26th.

Booster Booth: The PO will have booster items available after school on the next half-day, Friday, September 4th (note the revised date).

Carpooling: We are still collecting carpool interest forms, which can be found on the website.

Directory: The deadline for turning in directory permission forms and directory advertising forms is Monday, August 31st. Forms can be found on the website or at the PO area in the school office.

Traffic: Thank you to all our drivers for your patience this last week in the drop off/pick up lane as well as parking. Thank you also for your cooperation and patience with the traffic volunteers as they are directing traffic in a safe and efficient manner. Remember, they are there for the safety of your student and your vehicle and will try to move each of us through the line as quickly as possible.

These are the upcoming events for the week of August 11th:

Lunch Order: Lunch orders are due tomorrow, Wednesday August 12th by 4 p.m. Order forms can be found on the website.

Restaurant Night: Tuesday, August 18th is Paradise Bakery Night from 5-9 p.m. This will be a fun night for the school community to come together. You may even be served by one of the Glendale Prep teachers! Ten percent of the proceeds come back to the PO and there will be tip jars for each grade. The grade that raises the most tips will earn a cookie party from Paradise Bakery!

Booster Booth: The PO will be selling booster items after school on the next half-day, Friday, August 28th.

Curriculum Night: Friday, August 28th is Curriculum Night, an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and view the curriculum that the students experience. The lunch vendors will be serving samples of their offerings as well. The school will send more information as the time draws closer.

Carpooling: We are compiling information for a carpooling resource for our families. A form was included in the welcome packet at the bookstore. If you are interested in carpooling but did not submit a form, please do so as soon as possible. You can find the form on our website.

Directory: If you have not turned in your directory form, please do so right away! Forms can be found in the office.  Advertising is available in the directory. You can find a form for pricing and ordering instructions in the office.

These are the upcoming events for the week of August 4th:

Bookstore: Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. This is the second and final day of the bookstore. Make sure you pay your textbook deposit and pick up your children’s books if you didn’t the attend the first day last Saturday!

Griffin Greet: Friday, August 7 at 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. Order forms for the event are due no later than Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. An order form has been attached and is also available on our website.

PO Meeting: Our next Parent Organization meeting is this Thursday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. in rooms 15 & 16. All new and returning parents are invited and encouraged to attend! An agenda has been attached.

Greetings GP Parents:

I hope your summer is going well so far. The Glendale Prep Parent Organization has been hard at work gearing up for an exciting second year for the Glendale Preparatory Academy community. We still have much to accomplish as the year starts up and we need your help.

The First PO Meeting

Please join us at our first PO Meeting of the year, this Thursday, July 23rd at 7:00pm at the school campus.

We will be meeting in room 17 (in the new building) and will have refreshments available. Come help us finalize plans for the year and also get involved in one of the many opportunities as a committee chair or an always valued volunteer. There are opportunities to help right away. This is an excellent way to meet other families before the year starts as well as being informed of upcoming events. See the attached agenda.

The Bookstore
The Bookstore Committee needs volunteers to help bundle textbooks into sets for each of the students. We also need help putting together the ‘Welcome Packets’ that will be given out to all families. The Bundling party will take place on Wednesday, July 29th from 8:30am until we are finished. (There’s a lot of work to be done on this day so… the more the merrier).

The Bookstore will be open Saturday, August 1st from 8:30am – 12:30pm and Wednesday, August 5th from 11am – 6pm. We will need volunteers on these days as well to greet parents, hand out book sets & generally help things run smoothly.

If you are able to help on any of these days (even for just a bit), it would be a greatly appreciated. Contact Jeni Garcia if you want to lend a hand at bookkeeper@glendalepreppo.com.

The Griffin Greet
On Friday, August 7, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., the Parent Organization will host the Griffin Greet – a back-to-school social offering students the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. The event will be held on campus and lunch will be served to those who wish to order it. An order form has been attached.
