From the school…

First Days of School: We have had a wonderful beginning to this school year.  It was such a pleasure to have our returning students back with us and our new students have acclimated to the school faster than we have ever seen.  Here’s to another great year at Glendale Prep!

Fall Sports: There is still time for students to join our football, volleyball, and cross country teams!  Please see the “2010 Fall Sports” attachment if your son or daughter is interested.

Student Drop-off and Pick up: Please see below for a summary of drop-off and pick-up locations:

  • All students need to be dropped off at Location #1 (next to the field)
  • Lower school students (6th – 8th grade) need to be picked up at Location #1 (next to the field)
  • Upper school students (9th – 11th grade) & carpools need to be picked up at Location #2 (near the fountain)

-  We are defining “carpool” loosely to include multiple-kid families (e.g. picking up two brothers who are in 6th and 9th grade) as well as multi-family pick-ups.

Please carefully review the “10-11 Student Drop-off Pick-Up” attachment and help us maintain the safety of our students by daily adhering to these regulations.  Thank you.

Supporting GP: If you have not already, please review the “Supporting Glendale Prep” attachment and determine how you can commit your time, talent, and treasure to supporting Glendale Prep and its students this year.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kathy Lund
Office Manager

From the parent organization……

Parent Organization Meeting: You are cordially invited to our first Parent Organization (PO) meeting of the year Thursday, August 12 at 7 p.m.  The agenda is attached.  Come join us, as we are still planning events for the year and have saved a space just for you.  We look forward to meeting you and getting your input on important PO activities.  We will be in Rooms 15 and 16.

Name and E-Mail Address Correction: Please make note that our Volunteer Coordinator is Sandy Gallo and she can be reached at sandygallo@cox.net.

Hot Lunch Program: This year, the Parent Organization will be offering student “hot” lunches on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  The first order form for lunches for August 16 – 31 is attached to this email and is due with payment by Monday at 3:30 p.m. to the PO box in the main office.

As we begin the new year, there are a couple of things to remember when completing the order form:
1.      First, don’t forget your student’s name
2.      Next, circle ALL your menu choices for each day you ordering lunch (e.g. cheese or pepperoni pizza)
a.       Please note that Jason’s Deli includes some extra side and drink choices.
3.      Turn in the entire form (you might want to make a copy for your fridge) and make your check payable to GPA PO or include cash.
a.       We will be putting orders on the GPA PO website so if you are in doubt or don’t remember your order it will be there.

Additional notes…

  • We are introducing an exciting new restaurant on the menu– we will now be serving Jason’s Deli on Mondays – give them a try.
  • If you would like to help with serving lunch on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday – please contact Joy Hodesh at jhodesh@hotmail.com, thank you.

*** Don’t forget to check our website regularly for notices and forms at: http://www.gpapo.org. This site is updated regularly and is a great place to gather information.  Copies of all forms can also be found in the school’s main office in the PO Area.

Sincerely,

Kendra Gould

Dear Parents,

We are growing more and more eager by the day to have students once again here on campus at Glendale Prep!

Starting today, you will begin receiving a weekly email newsletter with important information from the school and the Parent Organization.  Please make it a habit to read each section carefully to stay up-to-date on our latest policies, procedures, events, and happenings at Glendale Prep.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

This Week at Glendale Prep:

July 28 – August 6, 2010

School Dates to Note

Saturday, July 31 Bookstore:  Day 1 of 2 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 4 New Student Orientation 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 4 Bookstore:  Day 2 of 2 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, August 5 First Day of School 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Thursday, August 5 Griffin Greet 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

From the school…

Bookstore: Our two days of the 2010-2011 Glendale Prep Bookstore are rapidly approaching, with the first day being this Saturday!  All parents are required to visit the bookstore on one of the two days.  See the “Preparing for the 2010-2011 School Year” for more information (this is the same document that was emailed to you back on July 13).

Bookstore Notes:

  1. Bring payment to cover your textbook deposit and school fees.

a.  See the Preparing for the 2010-2011 School Year attachment for exact amounts for each grade level

  1. Plan on spending approximately 30 minutes at the Bookstore (longer if lines exist).  You will be visiting three “stations” upon your visit.  You will pay your deposit in the first station (main office), fill out necessary forms and be able to purchase uniform & booster items and ask questions of parent and student volunteers in the second station (room 22), and pick up your children’s textbooks in the third station (room 21).

a.  Uniform note:  If you purchase uniform items at the Bookstore on Saturday, they will be available for pick-up at the Bookstore on Wednesday if you’d like.

  1. Historically, we have had more parents attend the first day of the Bookstore (Saturday).  If you have flexibility in your schedule and want to avoid lines, we recommend coming Wednesday early afternoon.

Student Drop-off and Pick up: As our returning families know, we were required by the city of Glendale to change the traffic flow pattern that we were utilizing for our student drop-off and pick-up last May.  We will be continuing with the same procedure we put into place at that point last year.  However, we have made one small adjustment.  In order to spread out the number of vehicles on campus for student pick-up after school, we will be utilizing both pick-up locations (Location #1: next to the field & Location #2: near the fountain) and designating which students need to be picked up at each.

In brief…

  • Lower school students (6th – 8th grade) need to be picked up at Location #1 (next to the field).
  • Upper school students (9th – 11th grade) & carpools need to be picked up at Location #2 (near the fountain).

Please carefully review the “10-11 Student Drop-off Pick-Up” attachment and help us maintain the safety of our students by daily adhering to these regulations.  Thank you.

Student Drivers: Some of our 11th grade students are at an exciting point in life, finding themselves behind the wheel of a vehicle.  At Glendale Prep, we fortunately have the capability of allowing students to drive to school and park on our campus.  However, all students need to read, sign, and turn in a “Student Driving Waiver” (see attached) and receive a parking pass before driving to school.   Students who would like to begin driving to school on the first day need to have their parents turn in their waiver upon their visit to the bookstore.

Fall Sports: Our fall season of sports is upon us and our Athletic Director, Jon Rickey, has some important information regarding meetings, practices, and necessary documents for all students interested in playing football or volleyball or running cross country.  Please see the “2010 Fall Sports” attachment.

New Student Orientation: All new students to Glendale Preparatory Academy must attend a New Student Orientation next Wednesday, August 4 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Students need to report to the Sanctuary by 9:20 a.m. to receive their schedule.  Students will have an opportunity to visit their lockers during the day, so they should bring their combination lock and textbooks (if they have picked them up by this point).

First Day of Class: School begins next Thursday!  All students need to report to the Sanctuary by 8:15 a.m. (check-in begins at 8:00 a.m.).  Please see the “Preparing for the 2010-2011 School Year” attachment for more information.

School Sign: Unfortunately, our request to build a school sign at the entrance of our private road was denied by the city this summer.  During the construction of our new two buildings, we were informed that we would be permitted to add a sign at this location.  Thus, we are seeking a variance permit through the city.  We will keep you posted.

Supporting GP: Many parents have asked us how they can support Glendale Prep.  One of the primary means is through the giving of your time, talent, and treasure.  Please see the “Supporting Glendale Prep” attachment for more information.

Sincerely,

Kathy Lund

Office Manager
