Call to Order:  7:00 PM

Kathleen Shea opened with a statement that we do not have a President, however, are very open to anyone who would like to volunteer,  followed by a reading of the purpose of the PO from the By-Laws.

Treasurer’s Report:

Mike Buckley reported that the current bank balance is $6,999.12, as of 7/29/11

Old Business:

Kendra Gould reviewed some of the accomplishments of the PO last year.  The PO was able to give the school:  Griffin Mascot $3,000, Drama Cubes $1,100, Staff Sponsorship $800, Legacy Gift $2,000, Cash $11,000 for a total gift amount of $17,900.

New Business:

Griffin Greet:   Was held this year at Barro’s restaurant at 67th Avenue and the 101 on August 4th after early dismissal.  It was well attended however it was suggested that there be more family interaction, student interaction by grade and that space was limited.

Order Lunches:  Up and running and seems to be working well.  We need a Chairperson for this Committee.

Donut Fridays:  Will begin this Friday morning to be Chaired by Rhonda Lewis.  Will be taking cash this year.  $1.00 for a donut and a beverage.  Parents are invited to share a donut with their student also, just need to be off campus by 8:30am.  There was a suggestion that we include frozen otter pops during the hot months.

Junior/Senior Measuring Days:  Dusty Schollmeyer and a representative from Collette’s will be measuring students on Wednesday the 17th and Thursday the 18th for Blazers, Kendra Gould and a representative from Treasures Jewelry will be measuring the Seniors for class rings on Thursday the 18th.

Study Skills Workshop:  Scheduled for August 20 at 8:15am with a cost of $30.00.  Registration is encouraged and required.

Curriculum Night:  Will be held on Friday, August 26th at 6:15pm.  Frieda Kungie will be Chairing the Hospitality Committee and will need volunteers for this event to help with setting up/tearing down as well as cookie baker volunteers.  Passed around a sign up sheet for cookie donations.

Senior Information Night:  to be held August 30th
Junior Information Night:  to be held September 30th

PO Vacancies Update:  Still need a President as well as several Committee Chairs

PO Reimbursement/Deposit Procedures:  Forms for reimbursement are in the PO box in the front office and need to have the original receipt attached.  Deposit envelopes are also in the PO box, please check which category the deposit is to be made under.

Committee Reports:

No committees operating to report at this time

Open Discussion:

Book Ordering:  Several suggestions were made regarding the purchasing of textbooks and classics and also on making the website more user friendly.  If anyone has suggestions they are encouraged to email Dean Gordon at sgordon@glendaleprep.org and Mr. Hill at chill@glendaleprep.org.

It was noted that Scottsdale Prep orders their classics and textbooks from Barnes and Nobles and at an appointed time go in and pick them up pre-bagged.  Mr. Hill will follow up to see if this is possible for our school.

Discussion regarding families who are not financially able to purchase uniforms and/or books took place.  Collette’s has given a very generous 75% discount on uniforms for a family this year.  It was suggested that we purchase through the scrip program gift cards for Amazon and Barnes and Noble to purchase supplemental books for families with financial needs

Restaurant Nights:  Needs a chair who will set up schedule, make pre-event calls to confirm, follow up for payment and take care of flyers and school information.

School Clubs:  List and schedule will be coming out soon.
Enrolled and Prospective Parent Information:  It was asked if there would be a way to make the Family Handbook and other information materials available at the beginning of summer.

There were questions regarding the wearing of hats and sunglasses for medical/health reasons.  Mr. Hill will follow up with this.
